Class 3  Longest dipper
Class 4  One odd or freak of nature (can not be manipulated)
Class 5  Hand trained
Class 6  Lagenarias grouping of three different varieties
Class 7  Longest snake gourd
Class 8  Knotted dipper

SECTION II: GREEN GOURDS (all gourds must be grown by exhibitor)
Judging Criteria
Cultural perfection and cleanliness 33%
Trueness to type/variety 33%
Uniformity 33%

Class 9  Apple gourd
Class 10  Five Banana gourds
Class 11  Collection of three different ornamentals of like size
Class 12  Freak or oddity (can be manipulated)
Class 13  Grown in container
Class 14  Lagenarias grouping of three different varieties

SECTION III GOURD CRAFTS

Class 15   Functional gourd bird house (drainage holes required) or bird feeder (any technique(s))
Class 16   Floral design, fresh or dried in gourd container (any technique(s))
Class 17   Gourd chipped or carved only (cut or uncut)
Class 18   Gourd wood burned only (cut or uncut)
Class 19   Gourd painted only (cut or uncut)
Class 20   Gourd using a combination of two or more techniques (cut or uncut)
Class 21   Functional gourd musical instrument (any technique(s))
Class 22   Gourd jewelry, any one article or set of jewelry (any technique(s))
Class 23   Gourd using a weaving technique (cut or uncut)
Class 24  Gourd mask (any technique(s))
Class 25  Gourd hat (any technique(s))
Class 26  Gourd basket with handle and no lid (any technique(s))
Class 27  Gourd bowl with lid and no handle (any technique(s))
Class 28 Gourd bowl with  NO lid and no handle (any technique (s))
Class 29  Gourd toy or doll (any technique (s))
Class 30  Gourd animal, insect, reptile, amphibian, or bird (any technique(s))
Class 31  Gourd sculpture, realistic or abstract (any technique(s))
Class 32  Functional gourd item such as lamp, luminary, clock, or purse (any technique(s))
Class 33  Gourd holiday item such as a Christmas ornament, Santa, Easter egg, Halloween ghost-  may be a luminary  (any technique(s))
Class 34  Gourd using a decoupage technique (any technique(s))
Class 35  Gourd using Illinois as the theme, such as IL. symbols, people, buildings, wildlife,
     flowers, (any technique(s))
Class 36  Anything goes-items that do not fit into any other categories

TERMINOLOGY
Carving-  Removal of shell material without penetrating through the shell of the gourd
Creativity-  Fresh approach, unusual use of materials, colors, etc.
Conformance-  How well exhibitor abides by the schedule rules
Cutting-  Removal of material by penetrating through the shell of the gourd
Dried-  Mature gourd that has been cured or hardened
Dye(stain)- Use of leather dye, fabric dye, or natural stains(berries etc.)
Green-  Gourd grown in 2003 not yet completely dry
Luminary- use of a lighting method such as electric light bulb, candle, etc..
Originality-  Uniqueness, new concept
Painted-  The use of paints (acrylics, oils, watercolor), colored pencils, markers, inks
Sculpture-  Use of gourds and pieces of gourds to produce a form (abstract or realistic)
Weaving-  Use of material to weave a pattern or design on the rim or surface of the gourd
Wood burning-  Etching of the surface of the gourd surface with heat without penetrating through the shell

ILLINOIS GOURD SHOW RULES FOR COMPETITION EXHIBITORS
1. Dry and Green gourds must predominate in all classes.
2. No gourd may have been previously exhibited in a past  IL. Gourd Show.
3. Please try to have entry forms mailed or email by September 3, 2003, so that proper staging can be allotted for each class.  Check all class numbers to be entered on the entry form and mail the entry form to: Pam Riddle, R.R.1 Box 211, Neoga, IL  62447  or email to gourdiddle@rr1.net .
4. All entries must be in place, with entry tag attached, by 10:30 a.m., Saturday September 10, 2003.  Your name and entry number must be on the tag.  Absolutely NO entries may be mailed.
5.  Entries must remain in place until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.  Business cards may be placed beside the exhibitor's pieces after judging has been completed.
6.  Entries are open to any Gourd Society member, not limited to Illinois.
7. Only one entry per class by each entrant.
8. Judging of entries will be Saturday, September 10, 2005, starting at 12:00 noon. Exhibitors are not to attempt to influence or interfere with judges while judging is in progress.
9.  All classes will be judged :1st, 2nd, 3rd. ribbons will be awarded in each class.
10.  A "Peoples Choice Award" will be given: voting will take place before classes are judged and not revealed until after all ribbons have been awarded.
11.  A "Special Show Award" will be given and a ribbon will be awarded.
12. The Illinois Gourd Society and the Chicago Botanical Garden shall not be responsible for any accidents, losses, breakage of entries, containers, or exhibits.
13. It is the feeling of the Illinois gourd society that the natural qualities of the gourds and the use of natural materials should be emphasized, therefore no artificial flowers, foliage, fruit, or any plastic items are permitted.  Points will be deducted for use of any such materials.
