I've only been doing gourd work for 2 1/2 years.
This gourd (showing top and bottom) was grown in our garden
and is chip-carved and the design work is in colored pencil (Prisma).

A description of Der Weinachtsmann: German Santa carries his stein and a black forest cuckoo clock. He proudly wears his lederhosen, jacket and embroidered coat. Under a tree decorated with candles and gingerbread, or lebküchen, men and stars, are a nutcracker goatherd fräulein and her companion, and a candle pyramid. Another nutcracker with tiny stein flanks one side, and a snowy chalet is on the other side. --Suzy Meelhuysen, member of the American Gourd Society and the Show-Me Gourd Society.
