Darke County Fairgrounds, Greenville, Ohio Saturday Sept 25th
9-5 and
workshops: Friday, Saturday and Sunday |
The
Ohio State Fair opens on July 28, 2010 and closes on August 8. This
year, gourd entries will be accepted on Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and
25. All entries must be in place by 3:00 pm, Sunday, July 25, 2010.
Information regarding 2010 entries will be posted at WWW.Ohiostatefair.com
in April. The deadline for entering all competitions of Creative
Arts is June 20 every year. At this point, the 2010 classes are planned
to be the same as they were last year. Final class descriptions will
be posted on the State Fair website after April 1, 2010. Please check
the site for the latest information about classes, entries, and other details.
Gourds will again be exhibited in the DiSalle Building as part of the Creative Arts Competition. There will also be gourd competition in the Youth Arts Division for 2010, as well. This Division targets younger artists by encouraging entries by High School, Junior High and Elementary School students. Art teachers throughout the State are contacted regarding this opportunity, so information regarding the gourd art class will be widely disseminated.
There are two changes to be noted for the 2010 gourd competition. First, the minimum age for entering Creative Arts has been lowered to 11 years. Second, each exhibitor is allowed to enter two items in each class.
Finally, your attention is drawn to the fact that groups and individuals can become sponsors of the gourd classes. This helps to draw attention to the fact that there is a wide base of support for gourd art, and could help with expansion of the gourd division in future years. Sponsorship begins at a contribution level of $50. Sponsors donating a minimum of $50 have their names listed with the Division receiving the donation, and receive Ohio State Fair Pins, admission tickets and parking passes. You may contact John Martin for additional information.
Remember, the Ohio Gourd Society has its roots in the Ohio State Fair and our continued participation honors that long tradition. The State Fair provides wide exposure for gourd art and supports the Ohio Gourd Society’s mandate to provide educational opportunities to the public.
