Agreement 1 – Name and Purpose

We agree our name is Virginia Lovers’ Gourd Society (VLGS). We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to the education and promotion of gourd knowledge is all its aspects. We are the Delta Chapter for the American Gourd Society.
It is our intention to

1) encourage knowledge of gourds and gourd gardening in the general public
2) encourage the use of gourds in individual artistic and crafting expressions


Agreement 2 – Membership

We agree membership to the Virginia Lovers’ Gourd Society (VLGS) is open to anyone who

1) makes an annual membership donation of one (1) book of First Class stamps for newsletter mailing, VLGS Festival promotion, and communication with other AGS chapters; memberships are annual and extend a calendar year from January through December
2) participates in the VLGS annual public gourd awareness project designed to generate knowledge of gourds and gourd gardening among the general public and especially students


We agree members are responsible for maintaining accurate name, address, and email information with VLGS. At no time is information to be sold, shared, or divulged without membership permission and advance notice. At no time is email information used as contact for forwarding internet junk mail.

An Annual Membership Meeting is held during the VLGS Festival, the first full weekend of November. The agenda will be published in the autumn newsletter prior to the Festival. Each member is allotted one vote per issue. Absentee votes are presented to a leader before the Annual Membership Meeting.

Agreement 3 – Leadership

We agree there are three (3) leaders of VLGS, elected on a biannual basis from the membership list. Resignations result in an appointment of a member to office by the remaining leaders. The leaders will act in egalitarian cooperation to organize our biggest annual public exposure, the Virginia Lovers’ Gourd Festival.
 

We agree the leaders
1) delegate various duties to members for the enhancement of the Festival
2) delegate/accept responsibility to prepare and produce the Festival applications
3) delegate/accept responsibility for a quarterly newsletter that acts as the main communiqué between VLGS members and other AGS state gourd chapters
4) be responsible for collecting and maintaining records of the annual membership list: member’s current information and membership status
5) be allowed to agree how best to communicate among themselves throughout the year


Agreement 4 – Communication

The VLGS newsletter, Loving Gourd News, is published quarterly and used as a tool for communication between members. Members are encouraged to submit information. Festival applications shall be mailed in the newsletter, and available to others upon request.
